Fantastic! Still around? I remember seeing this (I think) in an old Fire Brigade Society book about Devon appliances.

I photographed this appliance some twenty years ago at the Pains Fireworks New Forest Fire Engine Rally at Ringwood,was raining hard all day so the appliance was'nt moved so I only got a back end shot of it,its really good to see its still in presevation still today.
The appliance CTA 298C TL was a 1965 Bedford TK/HCB-Angus/Merryweather.A special adaption for the Devon County Fire Service,this appliance used a 60ft ladder from a wartime Austin K4 TL.It was on the run at Ilfracombe for 20 years going out of service in 1985 and into preservation.

I served at B1 Barnstaple with detached duties at B2 Ilfracombe, 1964 to 1972. The ladder was taken its predecessor at B2. The ladder was hand operated except for extending which was mechanical and was fitted with ground to head of ladder communication. It had a hosereel, 200gal tank and carried a 250gal/min pump. Whilst it had limitations it was a very useful appliance. For comfort the crew were in a fully enclosed cabin.
