Westmoreland is a village in central Oneida County, NY USA. This is a shot of one of their original pieces of apparatus. Engine 2 is maintained as a parade showpiece.
A hose clamp. When the truck pulls up to the nearest hydrant at the fire, a firefighter gets off the truck and grabs the hose line which he wraps around the hydrant and holds. When the truck moves to the fire, the hose stays put. When the truck stops, the Captain immediately gets off, grabs the hose clamp and clamps the hose. The the firefighter at the hydrant can hook up the hose to the hydrant. Once the hose is connected to the engine, then the hose clamp is released and the water flows to the engine once the hydrant is turned on. Hope that clears it up.
