Ford D Series WrL North Yorkshire Fire Service. The photo was taken in 1974 just after the City of York Fire Brigade was amalgamated into the North Yorkshire Brigade. You can see the old York name and crest on the cab door. This appliance was one of four with the City of York Fire Brigade that were painted in Coventry Yellow. The other three being ERF/Simon SS50 HP, Commer KC40 Walk-Thru Van Salvage Tender & Bedford RL Emergency Tender.

The registration to this City of York 1972 Ford Water Tender Ladder in the yellow livery is BDN614K.

It looks like a Carmichael body, which retained the original tilting Ford factory cab.
These must have been some of the very few Ford D series fire pumps which were built with old-fashioned slam lockers - if not the only ones. A seemingly rather odd choice for an appliance doing duty in York's famously ultra narrow city center streets!
Hopefully not a Shambles...
