Some German fire departments are emulating their British brothers by slathering their trucks with weird paint and taping patterns and designs.

I can't help but wonder if these really make anything safer, or just serve to confuse and distract other road users?

If they do actually improve safety, then presumably there is one design which is best - so why not make it a European standard?
