Fire Engines Photos

It appeared at Preston Park, Teesside Airport, and the Tyne Tees rally during the 80's/90's.

I really didn't know another of these Leyland TD7's was still around doing the rallies,I've certainly never seen it down here in the south of England.Really looking forward Chris to seeing a picture,and hopefully at a rally maybe next year when James brings her along.

James, GLW 422 served at Wolverhapton Central Fire Station on Red Lion Street until Leyland Firemaster/Haydon/Magirus 9900 DA arrived in 1960. According to reports, GLW upon turnout used to clip the wall accross the road from the fire station as Red Lion Street was a narrow road.

James - I can't add much substance to the history of the TL but can say that in about 1951, aged 3 and returning with my mother to our flat in nearby Darlington Street, I was hoisted into the driving seat by one of the crew and cried so violently that I had to be summarily removed. Andrew Middleton is right about the narrowness of Red Lion Street and about the replacement by the Leyland Magirus. This appliance was initially stationed at Fallings Park and, I understand, was not liked by the Brigade, being regarded as "jinxed". I should like to sit in GLW 422 again - promise not to cry this time.

I believe this T/L was at Cape Hill Brewery in the 1960's and was sold on probably in the late 70's or early 80's.I saw a half cab TL at the brewery in mid 60's. I was given the Reg no by Cape Hills last FB CO who confirms it was a Leyland T/L on a bus chassis

I have spoken again with Cape Hills ex CO and GLW 422 did indeed go from Wolverhampton directly to Cape Hill FB.
Also he confirmed the story of GLW 422 clipping the wall when leaving Wolverhampton. F/St.
It was to be scrapped but Cape Hill FB put in an offer above scrap.

My father served in Wolverhampton fb and later west midlands this was the first machine he went to a call on back in 1960.

Do we know the ultimate fate of 9900 DA? Its almost twin, Darlington's MHN 999, is still preserved, but as these were the only Firemaster ladders ever built, it would be nice to know if the Wolverhampton one still survives...
