These tiny pumpers are very widely used by Japan's innumerable local community volunteer fire brigades.

Often first on scene, before the full-time fire crews arrive, they gather in hordes - and their primary role is to prevent conflagrations in the tightly-packed narrow streets and lanes of wood and paper structures.

The firefighting techique is not very sophisticated - mostly exterior attack and/or protect exposures. Nor are the trucks very sophisticated, either. A 750 LPM portable pump, hoses and not much else!

But its not unusual for half a dozen of these to assemble very quickly, so the concept usually works just fine!
