And that same set-up, is exactly what I see, today, mounted on the rear of farm tractors; used for "skidding" logs out of the woods, on logging operations.

The Ford D Series between the two Commers was only very recently delivered as of the date of this photo. It was one of eleven sold to Gloucestershire, including ten pump water tenders and one foam tender. These were the first Ford D Series sold for fire truck application in the UK and probably the first fire engines to have tilt cabs. They had specially-sourced petrol engines built by Ford of Canada. Despite already owning diesel trucks such as the AEC/Merryweather TL illustrated here, the Brigade insisted on petrol engines at this time! An interesting combination of innovative thinking combined with a very conservative attitude to powertrains.
