Generally, Polish apparatus specifications and equipment tend to be similar to what is commonplace in adjoining countries, and especially Germany.
4X4 trucks like this are popular because of a combination of poor rural road conditions in many areas, and a climate which tends to produce a lot of snow!
Like almost every other country, paid full-time staff are limited to larger towns and the great majority of fire stations are staffed only by unpaid volunteers.
Fire protection has been revolutionized and completely modernized in the past twenty-five years, and was very shaky back in the Cold War days when I first visited the country.
Some older Polish fire trucks from that era are on this site - and the differences are quite dramatic!
