TUP 739K A Bedford Mobile Canteen Unit supplied new to Durham County Fire Brigade in 1971, the arrival of the vehicle at large and protracted incidents was a most welcome sight by weary firfighters. The body is by Duple of Blackpool, a company better known for bus and coach manufacture and is in fact built on a coach chassis. Duples also built some of the many Green Goddess fire engines.

Sorry Barrie, the bodywork was not by Duple. Both the CU and the CaV were built locally by Northern Assemblies, who had a place at or near to Consett.

Cheers Ian I stand corrected...I was told they were Duple built when I saw them at Durham HQ

If I am correct, didn't this end up as an exhibition unit at the Washington Wildfowl Park?

Chris: No, it was its twin - the CU - that ended up at Washington Wildfowl Park, I never found out what happened to the CaV, which was the only appliance on the fleet without a radio !
