Brandweer Amsterdam. Photographed in Amsterdam on 06/03/09. Sorry for the quality of the photo, I had just come out of a shop and just snapped away.I'm not sure the role of this appliance, any ideas I would like to know. Paul.

This is a 2006 Mercedes-Benz 1018F36 Atego built by Gemco. It is a breathing apparatus support unit.

Paul - I recommend you tsae time out if you can to look around if you are there again. Almost every Amsterdam firefighter speaks fluent English and they are fun to talk to. One thing I find very interesting is their extensive use of transporters and special-purpose pods, as well as their flood prevention equipment. In many ways, flooding is a much bigger hazard to the city than are fires, and they have a huge fleet of monster high volume demountable pumps to combat flooding.
