Bristol Bob, do you have any photos of older Bristol appliance from the 1940's or 1950's? I have a 1937 Bristol appliance which was still in service in the 50's and early 60's and would be interested in any photos of it or others from that era.

Humber Break down truck i have never seen one of these ever used by a fire service it looks like what
some thing the A TEAM converted.

Morgan......in the late 1960s vast numbers of these Humbers became available from the MoD, a few brigades bought them and converted them for a variety of roles.....I think that it was Bedfordshire FB who took the lead with Rescue Tenders for the newly opened M1 motorway

Pembrokeshire had at least one as an emergency tender,and Cranfield airport had one as well.

The Humber has a reg. mark B which would place it 1964 but I remember it coming into service several years later.
It was ex army signals spec. with the original rear box body removed and side lockers fitted. The lifting gear was hand operated and was taken from the vehicle it replaced (an ex war time U.S. Dodge ambulance).
It was used as the brigade brakedown vehicle and for that it was OK.
Standard fitting for that MOD truck was a Rolls engine, 5 speed gearbox, FWD, waterproof electrics and ignition. Also rear mounted power winch, built in tyre compressor, and an insulated cab.
It saw sterling service but as the years rolled by brigade vehicles became more reliable and heavier and it was made redundant.

Regarding the "B" registered (Warwickshire registration)Humber, don't forget that Warwickshire themselves had CAC 571B as an ET. Logic sugests that they had been going to have two and then changed their minds, with the result that the ex-WD Humber CAC 572B was ofered to Bristol who accepted, and then had theirs converted into a recovery vehicle.
