Dennis Emergency Tender 1965

EBB783C was Foxtrot 4, at the Fossway Fire Station (Newcastle East) for many years. Category 4 appliances are Heavy Emergency Tenders and EBB783C was supplied originally to Newcastle and Gateshead Fire Brigade in 1965. The original colour scheme was dark chocolate maroon with bright red lockers and silver coach lining. In 1974 it joined the fleet of the newly formed Tyne and Wear Metropolitan Fire Brigade and changed colour to the standard 'Fire Engine Red'. It is fitted with a ten ton hydraulic winch and a 7.5KW generator. The engine is an AEC AV470 coupled to a 'chinese pattern' Dennis gearbox. This ET was taken off the run in 1984.

Barry, Barry, the epityimy of the big city ET that brings back memories. Wonderful piece of restoration which makes me glad folk like yourself are out there not turning these historical pieces of mobile artwork into caravans which is what happened to the former Doncaster CB ET 6964 DT. Flintshire CDM593C Commer VA/HCB-Angus ET/CU in Rhyl holds memories for me. Many a time I saw her turning out onto the Coast Road in Rhyl. Bedford TK/Carmichael ET PCA889H from Colwyn Bay turned out onto Abergele Road many a time. Unfortunately, Clwyd decided to replace the two Flintshire type 'A' ET's CDM593C and 148 DDM with Range Rover /Carmichael 6x4 NCC777R at E2 Deeside and NCC778R W1 Rhyl. The two Denbighshire & Montgomeryshire Joint Fire Service Bedford TJ/HCB-Angus LUN221F at E1 Wrexham and PCA889H at W2 Colwyn Bay were replaced by bread vans. Dodge S50/Mountain Range at E1 Wrexham A737MDB and B285OEY Dodge S50/F+W at W2 Colwyn Bay. Bells and two-tones ruled the day back then. I'm not too keen on the American wail and yelp that we have now. No directional sense until they're on top of you.
