Dennis Ajax 1927It was exported by Dennis in 1927 to the Benoni Fire Brigade which is a provence of Johannesburg. Some time during its operational life the foam extinguishers were replaced by four 'Alert' 3 gallon water fire extinguishers. A pitchfork and ceiling hook were fitted on either side of the chassis rails and these still remain. After it was withdrawn from service it eventually ended up in the Scharinghuisen collection at Ladysmith as part of the largest collection of preserved vintage vehicles in Africa. It returned home to England in August 2000.

Rear brakes only, rigid suction hose for a rear-mount pump, and must have a water tank on board - was it Centrifugal Pump in those days?
Coming from a rural FD - the pitchforks equipment has got my curiosity. Shovels and brooms for grass-fires, yes - pitchforks for barn or haystack fires ?
