Even more amazing, at my age in life - I just realized what I said:
about someone who stood in the middle of the road, with his telephone, and took a colour photograph with it..... oh, technology.

Hi Pat, my job involves checking off the times of Stagecoach Buses leaving Stockton High Street (the one behind the appliances is an Arriva one) so I was here anyway and I heard them coming. A brisk walk to a convenient traffic island allowed me to get this shot. The incident was out of Camera shot to the kerbside of the appliances. A small fire had broke out in a bank which was quickly dealt with. Cleveland's response appears to be, two appliances for most incidents (in case the second one is needed immediately). If it's not needed, the second one go's back to the Station). The Station where these two are from is about three miles from this location. Technology is great! It never ceases to amaze me that someone in Canada, (and no doubt elsewhere) can read and see what I've put on this (and other) sites. I will be updating my phone this year, so the pics will be even better I hope!. All my other contributions to this site were taken with a 1982 Chinon CE4S SLR Camera bought for me by my Mum for my 21st Birthday that year. The negatives have been digitally scanned by a (good)friend of mine who is working his way through all 19, 000 Transport photos in my collection, thus bringing them into the 21st Century.

Strange coincidence Chris I used to work from the same premises when TMS ran the buses there. I was also stationed at Norton during the Teesside FB days

Hello barrie, do you have any photos of Grangetowns machines in the early Teesside days, im looking for the old Fot an Astin i think, and an Albion that was kept in the back of the station thanks ian mc

No sorry, Ian I havnt, I was stationed at the old Grangetown station for a short while....thats the one which is a tyre depot now.

May I jump in on this one please ?
The Albion (GLM 578) didn't pass to Teesside, being disposed of by North Yorkshire in 1968. The Austin to which you refer was presumably GGX 456, and it too was disposed of by North Yorkshire, this time in 1960.

Hi Ian,
I think I photographed the whole original Teesside fleet, and Grangetown had a Bedford TK as their FoT then (HPY 117D) - which was later written-off in an RTA.

To John Stott, Glad you like my photos sir. However, I can't agree with your dislike of Cleveland's livery. Given the plethora of Battenburg squares, stripes and other go-faster additions one finds on fire appliances these days, Cleveland's livery is quite tastefull. Everything follows a linear pattern, and there are no out of place swirls. The callsigns and station codes are tastefully done, and there is none of this 'caring for your safety' nonsense!
All in all a very smart livery, which is very effective.

Nay Mr Hall, the Good Lord himself intended machines to be an overall red, except for roller locker doors! No strips, no white and, as for battenburg and as for reflective stripes, well, adolescent nonsense!!

To John Scott, The Good Lord actually decreed that all appliances should have the 'Hallowed Cleveland white front livery', and that the asthetics of everything else is inferior to Cleveland as proved by the picture here lol!

To Ian Mac, I tried to send you an e-mail, but it bounced back to me! I've actually done this a few times Ian, but each time it has always come back to me.
If you are at the 500 Group's annual running day at Middlesbrough's Transporter Bridge on Sunday 26th April 2009, I'll meet up with you there.
According to my records, Grangetown's Bedford FoT was written off in an RTA c1969/70, and was replaced by CDC341K. I have a photo of this vehicle in my collection showing it new in 1972 at Grangetown without any white embelishments, which were added later. (The machine survives now as a SWB Towing Wagon)

To Ian Moore, I will be looking forward to seeing your early Teesside views, and would also be interested in purchasing a set, should they become available to buy.
