Hi Chris, what did they use these appliances for.

hi paul, the pinzas were stationed at Coulby Newham and Grangetown, Coulbys was used for line rescue and Grangtowns had a pump and water tank fitted, used mainly for fires on the local Eston hills and difficult areas normal pumps could not gain access to, at one stage G/twns had a small tripple ext ladder firred. ian mac

Thankyou Chris, I had the fortune to drive a demo Pinzy many years ago and it impressed me a great deal, a very useful chassis and engine. Problem is you need the Bedford TK stoop if you are over 5 foot ten!

These two were Multi Function Offroad vehicles. The first of these, J125TVN was originally allocated to Billingham where it was classed as a Rescue Tender.The other J126TVN was allocated to Grangetown (near Middlesbrough)for easy access to the Cleveland end of the North Yorkshire Moors, where the off road capability was put to good use. I don't think either of these are now in service, one was a rollover accident, the other a time expired withdrawl. Their role has been filled by a Unimog allocated to Grangetown.

Hi J125 is now at Silverstone race track as an incident response vehicle.

I remember test driving one of these when Steyr was looking at exporting Pinzgauers to the US. As well having so little headroom, I recall that the noise level was atrocious, but it really did have very impressive off-road capabilities. It would have been fun to try one out alongside a Unimog, but we could not get hold of one here at that time. Because of high pricing, the project did not go forward.

Rob there are some rather impressive videos on U Tube of these performing in the muck. You are right about the noise level though, it leaves your ears ringing after awhile.

There was also a 3rd sister one bought by Cleveland County Council though not for the fire brigade and in the council's orange livery - not sure about the reg of this one though
