Pete G: No, it never got the white front livery, and somewhere (repeat, somewhere) I have a rear view of it. I'll scan it in when I find it.

When Hartlepool joined the Cleveland Brigade in 1974, this machine gained a white bumper bar as part of it's Cleveland Livery. Not all of Cleveland's machines gained the white fronts, many of the early vehicles from the constituant brigades only gained partial white on things like the bumpers. Hartlepool's AEC TL DEF420D, and some of the former North Yorkshire Machines didn't gain any white at all.
Ron Henderson told me that this machine was prone to severe bouncing when it went over things like Railway crossings, so the front bumper was filled with concrete to help allieviate this problem. By the way, Hartlepool's former Leyland Lynx NEF293K turned up at Preston Park in 2002 (the only year I didn't go!!) as a recovery tender conversion, Does this machine still exist now?

Yes, it would have been pretty new Chris, and yes, it was brought out specially for the picture. I feel sure the booms were erected too.

Hi Dave, if you go to contributors on the tool bar above and look under Ian Moore's collection, you will find a picture of Redcar's Bedford SL (LPY803). I dont know its full disposal History, but it may well have been scrapped, or almost certainly will have been by now.

Can be seen with white bumper in 1976 film of large fire at Port Clarence along with other Teesside machines .
