Unipower was the chassis manufacturer I believe. I know they bought the design rights to the big normal control Scammell like the one Essex had and built several of them under the Unipower name.

John, i think Unipower were the chassis builders, there were quite a few crash
tenders of theirs about in the past, Warton and Newcastle had some as well as a lot of Scottish airports.

I can remember designing this unit when I worked at Carmichaels. Unipower is the Chassis builder. They were based in East Molesey in London.If I remember correctly this has a 10000 litre water tank with an intergrated foam tank. The tank sides extended beyond the end of the tank to cater for a locker over the rear axles.

If my memory serves me well Unipower started by building 4x4s for the logging industry many, many moons ago. They have at times also ventured into the specialist truck manufacturing business as well but only built a few. They took over the rights to Scammell and built a number of chassis for ARFF vehicles by various manufacturers. Take the present Major Foam Vehicle (MFV) of the RAF etc. They in turn were taken over I believe by Alvis.

Didn't Unipower make 4x4 appliance's for the Highland and Islands ARFFS? I remember 1 4x4 at IFTC and a 6x6.

I have happy memories of this truck, my Dad used to work as a Firefighter at Dunsfold and at the age of about 10 i got to ride to an openday in this. I think it took a good week for the smile to leave my face.

This specific crash tender has appeared on various web-sites for sale via Angloco. However it has been loaned out to various AFS sites in recent months and it is currently at E Midlands Airport until the arrival of their Rosenbauer Panther CA5 6x6.
