Fire Engines Photos

This is similar to the appliance that is stationed at RAF Menwith Hill in North Yorkshire. Does anyone know if the Defence Fire and Rescue Service is changing from Volvo appliances to MAN

Layton,
that is one thing the MOD doed not do is purchase second-hand surplus machines. they are now buying similar machines to the local FRS to enable commonality should an emergency arrise requiring lcal FRS assistance.

looking at the gap between the front wheels and cab i say this is a 4x4,as most of mod veh are, as thats what they mostly like for there use.

oh right i was told by a mod fire service sub officer they buy surplus domestic engines primarily from the local brigades and new ones if the local brigades arent selling

Layton, I have never heard of the MOD buying second hand appliances. They have on occasion rebodied appliances but never bought second-hand. It's always been new chassis that I have seen.

This MAN is indeed a 4x4, They have two of these at the same station.

Also in reply to Layton's comment, you may come across second hand appliances being purchased for use on MOD Estates. But they are not purchased by DFRMO, but by contractors like Serco, Porton Down has just purchased a Ex Hampshire Volvo FL6.

DFRMO has just taken delivery of (12) MAN TGA 15.280 Pumps, (10) WTL whilst the other (2) are 4x4 WTL one is going to the Falklands and the other to Cyprus.

The MOD have just purchased 3 new Volvo appliances and are at the central Fire training Centre Manston in Kent at present.

kineton defence station is to get to new MAN's talking to one of the LF's they brought a number of MAN chassis and are putting different bodies on them some fire engines others army trucks. But they have been not been put on station yet due to problems with the brakes.

The MOD DFRMO fire service has just bought a number of these MAN e-ONE appliance through the firebuy scheme.
They have bought both 2x4 and 4x4 variants with some carring 135 ladders others 10.5.

This is a MAN 14.220/Emergency One 4x4 WrL. One of a pair delivered in early 2004 to a similar spec as Grampian FRS, originally both were to go on the run to replace Mercedes 917/Fulton&Wylie WrT's at RNAD Coulport in Scotland. A change in plans saw SS03EXD allocated to Faslane Naval base and SS03EVJ allocated to Coulport. Both were new, hope this helps.

I was talkin to a firefighter from kineton he was saying that these MAN pumps had brake problems and also that the pump panal is a computer not as we know it with handles and wheels and that when the hand held radios were used near the pump bay it sent the pump computer haywire.
