As the Magirus firm built completely integrated fire appliances with their own chassis, engine, cab, bodywork, pump and/or aerial ladder for decades, it was indeed rare to see one of these sporting a Metz ladder.

Magirus was in fact the only fully integrated fire appliance manufacturer in Europe after WWII, as all the other specialists used either bought out engines (Dennis) or complete chassis.

In the US, American La France, Ward and both Seagave and Mack built complete apparatus at this time, although they too either dropped out or switched to buying engines as development costs soared.

Magirus continues to this day, but builds on many different chassis, although a lot of units are on corporate cousin Iveco chassis.

Metz also builds aerials on numerous chassis. When this example was built, most of those destined for the German market were on Mercedes chassis, although there were also a few MAN and Henschel.
