Wetter Iveco Magirus Rescue Truck
The brandnew rescue truck, german: "Rüstwagen" glitters in die Sun at saturday, 7. october by the "day of open door" at the new fire station of volunteer fire brigade "freiwillige Feuerwehr" in the small town Wetter (Ruhr) near Dortmund Germany. The fire brigade used traditional Magirus trucks, so this new truck ist a Iveco Eurifire 140 (facelift) with Magirus bodywork.

German fire services operate a lot of 4X4 units, even in large cities, and they are pretty much standard in small towns with volunteer fire companies like Wetter.
By now it has become something of a tradition, since major German truck manufacturers all started offering 4X4 chassis in the 1950s - but there are a couple of quite understandable underlying reasons:
1- Many of these stations include rural areas within their response district,
2- 4X4 traction is useful in bad weather, which is rather common in Germany.
Still, it is true that 4X4 fire trucks are quite rare in other Northern and Central European countries, and are less common in the old USSR now that their newer fire trucks are no longer built on military chassis.
