Nice shot Ian. I have many fond memories of that yard. My father was stationed there twice during his career with Tyne and Wear Fire Brigade. The background building is the Ambulance station that shares the yard (If my memory doesn't fail me). Tynemouth station put on some great shows during open days. Long before H&S and cost controls got in the way. Do you have any photos of either of the ERF HP's from Tynemouth. Infact I'd like to see anything you have of Tyne and Wear machines from the 70's and 80's, inparticular the ex Fossway appliances. Or maybe Chris Hall has some ??

It would be nice to see it back in this livery again.

Interesting that you got it of Ron (who I've known for about 45 years) as it's one of my shots.

All my pictures of this fine machine are from the preservation era. I got into Fire Engines far too late!!

To Mark Macmullen.
I have quite a few views of Tyne and Wear Fire Brigade from the late 80's to 90's period. However, most of my photos are of Volvo, Dennis SS and R types. Much of the really interesting stuff had gone by the time I took an active interest in fire appliances (too late again!!) I remember going past Hadrian Road's new Fire Station on the way to Byker Bus Depot in late 1988, and pulling in to photograph about four of the machines on display there. Apparently they were there to celebrate the opening of this Station. I did get pictures of the GMC Rescue Tenders, and the original Salvage Tender (already on this site)
I joined the Fire Brigade Society c1995, and enjoyed several visits to both Teesside, Tyneside, and Northumberland for some years, however, my membership has lapsed now.

Phil,

I think it would be about three years old when I did that shot.

Thanks Chris. Thanks for the info. I too live in Teesside and keep my Dennis DF133 TL and D series WTL near by. I'm not sure if we have met at shows ? My first outing this year will be Barnard Castle at the end of May and later the Tyne Tees run and of course Preston Hall. If you go to any come and say Hi..Cheers
