Why did Grampian sell it on?. It's only 6 years old. Or am I thinking what other people are thinking?

I believe it wasn't the success that Grampian had hoped for, but it was used for what the original purpose of this style of appliance was intended, i.e. to provide extra aerial cover in an area with previously none and not increase the crewing instead of many that are now in use in the UK as replacements for pumps and aerials. But I believe it was too big to respond for the street of Elgin.

Rick is correct, Elgins streets are very tight and they did hit a car with the cage in a small village when responding to a fire call. I think it was only on the run for about a year.

I take it the Irish painted it red, as it should be. All Grampian applaiances are white.

A big problem with the Grampian CARP was that when the booms were in use and the appliance was jacked up the crew could harldy get any gear out of the lockers as it was so high.

Another waste of public money, its starnge the irish can make use of them a look on blues and twos reveals some original ones from the eighties still in use ! I also see they are canny enough to realise how good the sabre is with a large amount bought second hand from these shores and given a new lease of life when our cash strapped brigades sell them off for a couple of grand with low miles to spend a quarter of a million on inferior in many ways new appliances , makes me mad , the sabres is still a modern appliance and no matter how you window dress it their replacement in a lot of cases is hardly warranted and I also note that new zealand cannot get enough of them either , we didnt buy them new in the end going for trendier continental lorry chassis that cost a lot more in the long run and which ultimently caused dennis to stop fire appliance chassis and concentrate on buses , the dagger is another mystery with the few that bought it saying its a great bit of kit yet we went for the mercs etc in the same ton class yet its a size that is more and more relevant today in urban and rural usage where the larger appliances are actually now to long /wide.heavy and not even fitting some stations , I am sure some scania fanatics will disagree but I dont feel they are as good as made out nor as reliable either , over to them
