Should that not be yelp wail and two tone? Or has this got silly tones?

Thanks guys but what I heard or the best way I can describe what I heard was more like a amplified clip clop in fact I would never thought it was any type of emergancy vehicle until it passed the bus I was on. Strange but true thanks guys

Take it that the clip clop is a "Localiser" as they were originally known. A white noise sound designed not to bounce off buildings. Only really works where the Siren points. Strange but effective at close quarters, kind of defeats the object of pre warning!

Thanks for the info. Is this type of siren on trial ? Thanks

If it is a Localiser it was developed 10 years or so ago by a Lancashire uni, A lot had them on trial, especially police. Was developed to avoid the "bounce" and echo off buildings. Very effective in certain circumstances but not recognised by Joe Public as a emergency tone really.

If I remember correctly Blackwall had them for an episode or two.

And as you said in yours of the 31st, Gary, only worked where the siren pointed. This obviously meant that they were no use for warning traffic at intersections, etc. One wonders how much was spent on the development of these things !
