These new Scania chassis are in my opinion very attractive. Certainly a good development from the old Scania P93 days. It is interesting how so many brigades are now introducing scanias into their fleet.

I guess it comes down to price, and the uncertainty that always surrounds Dennis, but yes, this is one very smart engine, wouldn't mind it in my station, if I couldn't get a Dennis !

The whole of Staffs F&RS is not a Scania-fest as FF Dallaway suggests. As well as 24 Scanias, Staffs are still operating 5 Dennis RSs, 2 Dennis SSs, 11 Dennis Sabres, and 2 M.A.N. machines in their pumping fleet.

Currently on order (autumn 2007)are 4 further Scania and 3 4x4 M.A.N. pumps. Hand-down movements should see the eventual withdrawl of the 7 Dennis RS & SS pumps.

The Dennis' have class though! The Scanias are...common! Do you know where the 4x4 MANs are going? Seems an interesting choice! Wish they'd buy more Dennis, they've even replaced Staffords Sabre RT with a Blimmin Scania! Thanks

Dave Sapsford, as of yet I don't know where the three 4x4 M.A.N. pumps are destined. Though I believe Penkridge are to receive a 'new' pump (possibly a handed-down Scania), with their current M.A.N. going to Gnossall. I'm a big fan of Dennis appliances too, but it is easy to understand why so many brigades are now operating Scanias: a Scania pump is £20, 000 cheaper than a Sabre!

20 grand! blimey that is a lot...but..but the Dennis' are nicer! :D Any word for the choice of MANs? They bought 2 back in 2002 i think it was, with one at Penkridge as you mentioned. Do you have a recent fleet list by any chance? Including the new deliveries that is. Thanks

david, it is the incident command light, this is turned on when this pump is the command pump (usually the 3rd in attendance).

Either when this is in full control or just awaiting arrival of the command unit.

All surrey wrl's now carry command support wallets, containing basic command equipment.
