One of a Kind Mack
Ever wonder what the next generation of Mack fire engines would have appeared had the corporation kept solvent its fire apparatus division? Here it is -- one of two prototypes that were built in 2004 (I'm told) but were never introduced to the market. A Pennsylvania volunteer fire company purchased the demo model for less than MSRP.

This is actually a Mack/Sutphen. If you go the FD company web site their are other pictures of it. I would guess they bought the chassis from Mack and had Sutphen finish the body work.

Yes, it is Heidlersburg Fire Company 25, in Adams County, near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania [The Gettysburg of the American Civil War].
Their web-site shows all their apparatus finished in this smart white-over-green paint-scheme:

Incidentally, the other Fire Companies in Adams County have a wide range of colour-schemes - very individualistic.... Irishtown Company 14 is (guess what) all green.....but no Battenburg chequers, that I could see.
Their web-site is pretty good - you can select by Fire Company or Manufacturer, etc and detailed captions. Well worth a visit:

Very exciting design. Many of us miss the factory built Mack Fire Apparatus. With American Fire Apparatus manufacturers consolidating, perhaps there is room for Mack to re enter the market.

When we were specing an Engine in 2002 the Sutphen dealer brought us several large photos of this Engine. According to him it was test for Mack to attempt to re-enter the apparatus market. Weather that was the truth or not, it was offered for a good price, we opted for a custom build.
