Looks like a Renault/Dodge Broughton Rapid Intervention Vehicle/Rescue Tender

This was at Kemble airfield for some time (not with the airfield fire service), is now in preservation and has been painted red, it has been shown at a couple of rallys in the Wilts/Glos area.I believe it is owned by a Kemble firefighter.

Its actually a Reynolds Boughton RB44/Carmichael(rescue tender)and when
first delivered it was originally fitted with a front mounted pump.

Pete, if memory serves me well, the pump weight caused adverse handling, these vehicles were a dog to drive anyway, underpowered and very prone to understeer.

This RB 44 was originally delivered with a Ford 2.8 V6 engine (no kidding-i'm serious!) . This was found (not surprisingly) to be inadequate for the vehicle . It was then transplanted with a Chevy 5.7 litre monster .....unfortunately, the brakes were not uprated at the same time, so things could get 'interesting' if you pushed the appliance too hard . Eventually it was fitted out with a diesel engine when finally converted (Booooo!) As Louise says, her brother now owns the machine along with another ex-BHX beast.

This truck seems to have been a real mix of Makers, Engines and Pumps.... I would presume that when the Front Mount Pump was removed, a Rear Mount Pump was fitted ?

Certainly, would be interesting to see a photo of it, after all these changes.....

The RB 44 is fitted with a perkins phaser engine giving a max speed 40mph. When the front mounted pump was removed when it was converted to a rescue tender, no other pumps were fitted. it still a pig to drive on the road. The other BXH truck i own is a thorncroft nubian major and it is still in occasional use with the Kemble airport fire service
