Feuerwehr Frankfurt a. M. Iveco Turntable ladder

This is a little older vehicle of the Frankfurt Fire Brigade. It's standing reserve as a turntable ladder. Special item on this vehicle is the big bucket. In this bucket can 4 people take place. The chassis is a Iveco 260-30AH, with a Magirus ladder (30 metres).

What do the numbers above the bays mean?
Are there at least 60 bays on one station!?

Added by David jones on 27 May 2010.
Or maybe numbered for the type of appliance housed there? Someone on here should know?

Another example of a large German full time fire station is Berlin's Tech I fire station. In addition to the normal compliment of equipment, this houses special rescue, foam, hazmat, water relay, emergency medical and tactical support units, including containers and trailers - and has 54 bays.

The backup Tech II station has, I believe, around 30.

As Anders points out, many German volunteer fire companies have one large station in addition to numerous smaller ones. These too house specialized trucks, which are not called on very frequently, any of which can be turned out by responding volunteers with appropriate training.

These include such units as cranes, water, line and collapse rescue trucks, boat, lighting, ventilation, generator and deluge trailers, foam tenders, water relay, hazmat, BA, decon, dive team trucks and incident command units, not to mention swap body carriers and various specialized containers.

As these stations also accommodate several regular pumpers, and usually an aerial, a tanker, a heavy rescue and a command vehicle, the number of bays can easily be 12 to 15, or many more...
