1970 Ford D400 pumper ex Qld Fire Service unit 328
This is my just purchased 1970 Ford D400 pumper to keep my 1981 Acco company. Unfortunately it had been painted up (and signwritten - now removed) to advertise an ice cream business. They also removed the water tank and pump at that time but at least it was painted well. There is some rust in the cab to be repaired but it has only travelled 14,000 miles from new so mechanically it is sweet. Body by Domino Hedges, same as my Acco, and again I think an ex Toowoomba unit as they had a small fleet of these. More research required! There is a bench seat behind the main cab, rear facing, accessed by the central steps as shown. Just need to find another pump to refit to the rear as the PTO is still in place and a period siren. It will be red again soon!!

Jonathan, do the steps lead to a rear facing bench seat for the crew? For us in Europe who know very little about Antipodean Fire Applainces, what is an 'Acco'. Can we have some more pictures please?

Thats a smashing looking pump mate, I remember the USAF having similar ones in the UK in the seventies. The hose was layered in the back of the machine and there were two riders who stood above the rear bumpers. Did Aussie brigades layer their hose as well?

Thank you all for your kind comments. To answer Barrys' question, an "Acco' is an Australian International truck. Refer to pic #9284 on this site to view my other pumper or go to my contributors page. The steps do lead to a rear facing bench seat. To answer John Stott the hoses do get layered in two rear facing lockers either side of the pump (if it was there!).

Hi Jonathan Truck looks good. I have a project to do up the first fire appliance servicing Moranbah QLD. I am unable to fiend much technical information on the D400. Can you point me in the right direction.

Will do Pav, truck was 90% finished then recently sold to a Museum. I have some info Calum Goodman on QFS history and the D400.

Been a while since I have been on this site, I will try and remember how to upload pics. Truck is basically 90% finished but has now been sold. Now on display in Toowoomba at the Highfields Fire Museum.
