E788LAJ Dennis Emergency tender

Ex North Yorks machine that was inloved in a rta whilst mobile to a shout, it came off the road and was written off by the brigade.

Bought by Commercial sevices and rebuilt as a air cushion recovery unit, of interest is the fact that this vehicle still retains it's original blue light bar mounted on the roof.

Surprised that the owner hasnt been told to change the beacon!

I would like to know, when this was involved in it's RTA, when was it withdrawn, and when did it enter service with this company?

What is the operation here, exactly ?

Curious, as I did some time as Hovercraft Pilot - BHC SRN-5 & SRN-6 - Marine SAR and Airport Crash Rescue.....

Pat, as mentioned this vehicle was an Emergency Tender with the county fire and Rescue service. following an RTA it was sold to the company who now own it. They are a breakdown and accident recovery company. This vehicle carries large air bags to lift heavy goods truck back onto their wheels when they have turned over following an accident. Paul.

Paul; thanks for the enlightment!

I got stuck, thinking along the idea of Air Cushion Vehicle....and, not Airbags, as they are called over here.

Which, by the way, are not much deployed - generally only with Fire Depts, and maybe, lifting big airplanes out from the mud.....

In industry - not at all, for the big vehicle recovery - just more "brute force" - with big tow-trucks, bull-dozers and heavy-lift cranes. Harder on the environment, but I suppose, they have more Real Estate to work within.....

I saw this vehicle in 2001 or 2003 in this guise, if I remember correctly the garage is just across the road from Tadcaster fire station
