If this is a 1988 Volvo which I'm sure it is, surely it can't still
be on the run as a first-line appliance can it?.When did you take
this picture Jake, not recently surely.Nice picture mate.

F888 is listed as a reserve - rhyl are shown as having a pn04wkd and pno5 efx - both volvo/saxon/jdc.

could have changed I guess - nice pic anyway !

Rhyl do not have PN04WKD, this is allocated to a Fire Station over in Western Division. PN04WKD was originally allocated to E02 Deeside, not C03 Rhyl. F888AKC was from the Reserve Fleet, as Rhyl Retained has not had a regular machine for about 3 years, since the demise of the Pump on Mercedes Angloco K85SCC. Since the photograph being taken, F888AKC has returned to the reserve fleet, and P24KEY Volvo Saxon WrT has been allocated to this Station.

F888akc is a reserve, it has been since it left mold(e08)a number of years ago where it was replaced by a cascaded p reg volvo/saxon

An F reg appliance is replacing a 04 plate!!! Blimey thats a bit of a jump back in time isn't it.

At my home station in Suffolk when we get a replacment its like normally like Y reg replaced by another Y reg or oldest a P reg appliance.

How comes such an old appliance is replacing such a modern one?

I thought North Yorks were bad, but most spare pumps are at least T reg upwards, infact Scarborough had a 51 plate as a spare recently, but i know that North Yorks had to get rid of a batch of H reg pumps due to chassis corrosion, so fair play to the mechanics for keeping these on the run, but they must be on their knees by now.....

Huh ! look at Humberside ! A C reg Dennis DF TL still on the run - however its awaiting a CARP to go on the run at Grimsby so will probably be on the run a few more years yet then! and would you believe A J reg Dennis SS as a spare ! and a G reg Volvo TL and a K reg Volvo ALP!

rhyl never had a 04 reg pump
also f888 was a div spare for the part time fire crew and whole time had a 2005 volvo now f888 gone back to workshops as a div spare and p23 key is now retained

Ayup you lot! Whats wrong with old machines?? A lot of older custom built pumps or TLs etc will outlast all the new fandangled lorries if workshops keep anti corrosion treatment and servicing up to scratch.

F888akc was a great machine when at mold prior to going on reserve fleet, one of the best clwyd volvo pumps, and reliable too!wrexham retained had e799vwm from previous batch on run this month.d999tfy the first volvo wrl on the run turned up as a relief with a llandudno crew to wrexham industrial estate about 18 months ago, and its crew were saying how reliable it was because its 54 reg volvo had too much electronics to go wrong!

F888AKC is no more. Last Tuesday she was driven out of workshops in Llandudno Junction and taken to Tyldsley and crushed.

Would have welcomed the chance myself, drove her at Mold before she went as a reserve. So much Clwyd heritage has gone and so little left. RIP F888 you shared happy and tragic times, you never let us down. Incidentally 8 is a lucky number in China and Former Capital Citybus used 888 on a number of buses in London, lets hope F888 is as lucky and the crusher breaks down.

I think you will find all North Wales appliances end up the same way.This is because the Goverment a few years ago told brigades not to sell them as they may end up in the hands of terrorists. and of course some were needed for use in the event of a national strike.

Ironic really when you can buy striped up Ex LFB Volvo/Saxon on Ebay etc. A lot of other brigades have altered this policy or didnt pay credance to it in the first place. The former Chief Constable of North Wales stirred up this hysteria in his advice to the F&RS.
