STAFFORDSHIRE F&RS, LONGTON FIRE STATION
Situated in the south of Stoke-on-Trent, this is Wholetime/Retained Longton.
When the adjacent A50 trunk road was greatly improved around 1997, this station became ideally placed to respond quickly to all areas of Stoke-on-Trent and north Staffordshire, including the M6 motorway.
The three appliance bays were then extended to the rear producing three double bays. As a result of this expansion and the improved road links, Newcastle-under-Lyme's Rescue Tender and Leek's Hydraulic Platform were both relocated here. Rather unusually, the Retained Water Tender sits behind the Wholetime Rescue Ladder.
Along with the two Scania pumps, Longton operate a Scania ALP, a Dennis Sabre Heavy Rescue Tender and a New Dimensions Iveco DIM Unit.
Currently, the station handles around 1700 calls per year.
