A uniquely Chilean type of truck, similar to the older generation of American city service truck - which used to be commonplace in departments which could not justify buying an aerial unit.
These are still in use in Chile, usually staffed by six to eight volunteer firefighters. Chile is unusual in that its fire services are entirely volunteer, even in the capital Santiago and other large cities.
More recent versions increasingly carry more and more rescue equipment, including hydraulic extrication sets.
The country has around 40, 000 volunteers, and almost one fifth of them are female.
