LEYLAND CUB FK 1 1933

LEYLAND CUB FK 1 1933 registration FG 9026 new to Kirkcaldy Town Council in Scotland. one of two similar FK1s built - one for Dundee and one for Kirkcaldy - both built as open cabs but with 'New World ' bodys for the crew, FG 9026 had a cab added within 5 years of being built, most probably to coincide with the opening of the new fire station in Dunikier Road Kirkcaldy. It cost £1561.00p when new, and was purchased in February of 2007 in Elgin after having been stored there for 25 years after seeing further use with Tullis Russell paper mills. It now resides in North Lincolnshire and will run with the rest of the appliances in my collection in memory of Mark who passed away earlier this year.

It never ceases to amaze me that such historic vintage appliances as this emerge after having been hidden away for so long, especially when they are in what appears to be such solid and complete condition.
It's intriguing to think what else is out there and exciting to anticipate what will be found next. I envy your detective skills, it must be phenomenal to discover something like this.
All the best with the restoration, it looks to be a superb machine and I expect that the poignancy of the dedication will make it even more special when it's finished.

beautiful machine, will look even more beautiful when she is complete. Will she be in Kirkcaldy's livery?

Hi Guys,

thanks for your kind comments, it was actually an enquiry from the owner about a vehicle I had for sale that led to this appliance being purchased- talk about right place at right time!!! I would love to show the original works delivery photos but they are copyrighted by the British Commercial Vehicle Museum. The original build was superb with varnished Teak bodywork inside and out, we thought the cab was original its so good and looks like its always been there but when it was added we guess that it was painted red all over! however I have a small picture of it -with cab in NFS markings its black and white so difficult to tell if its red or grey ! however the running lockers are teak in that picture, its my intention to leave 'as is'for a while - there are still traces of NFS markings and white edgings on the wings and no. plate !. If you look at other pictures and see our Big Six it is also teak bodywork so the pair would look very nice together! it also was 'tucked away'for over 25 years it must be a knack I have!
