This is a first one for me. We've got sent this photo of a mountain bike used by the Fire Department Boxmeer (Kees Theunissen). It's a shame though that it doesn't have a big blue light on it...
When my dad joined the Northern Ireland Fire Brigade as a retained fire fighter in Enniskillen in 1950's he used a bike for getting the half mile from his work to the station. Once while trying his best to get to the station the handlebars broke to the left of the headstock ... he rode on single handed and still made the turn out!!!

hey everyone, im a retained fire fighter (NIFRS), it's a fast way off getting to the station when their is heavy traffic in the town. i used my bike a lot. until i got a car.
Cleveland Fire Brigade use bikes for arson prevention and they carry out patrols during school holidays at arson hot spots. the bikes are reffered to as "fire bikes".
Bikes have been in brigades for many years. In Liverpool stations had bikes and were used by staff to go out to check/test hydrants.they carried a standpipe bar & key. one in Merseyside F&R Museum
Yes Dave...we used to have a similar bike....it was a 'order bike' similar to what Granville rode in Open All Hours TV program.....later it was modified to carry a 12v car battery and a rotary voltage converter which was able to power an electric drill for fitting hydrant plates.......so much easier these days with rechargeable drills
