Fire Engines Photos

This Hino is the latest Hino chassis. It seems that this TTL is operated by the Tokyo FD Hyper Rescue Unit (as indicated by their orange jumpsuit).

This is the first time I have seen a non-Japanese TTL on a Tokyo fire truck.

Morita is no longer and Magirus ladders were already very common in japan.

Bomba 995 I was in Tokyo in 1997 and the fireman operating the TTL had already then the orange jumpsuit, don't know when the Hyper Rescue Unit was organised but I think it was later then 1997.

has the firm morita stopped producing ttl or did they completely stop producing fire engines?

To respond to all questions, Morita is still producing TTL and all types of Fire engines. I have seen at Tokyo Fire Expo combined Marirus-Morita Engines (will send pics later). There are 2, 40m Magirus Hino ladders in Tokyo now since 2008, I have seen on a German webpage that these ladder are actually 44m (tb confirmed). There are many TTL 30m Magirus on Iveco EuroFire Tector in service in Tokyo.

In Tokyo all special engines such as TTL, Rescue Trucks, Ventilation Units, Lighting Units, Relaxation Units, are manned by Rescue staff wearing orange jumpsuits. They are also based in normal stations with the fire staff, medical staff and in some stations A-one fire units.

Tokyo hyper rescues.
"hyper rescue unit" are special teams with heavy and specialized equipment to face major incidents, mainly designed for earthquakes rescue, collapse unit, chemical incidents, heavy industry fire

4 hyper rescue units in tokyo
-keihin jima 2nd district hyper rescue
-shibuya 3rd district hyper rescue (super hazmat)
-adachi 6th district hyper rescue (added in 2007)
-tachikawa district 8th district hyper rescue

note : more hazmat units are being commissioned recently due to terrorist danger and also chemical gas suicides since 2007.

Jacques et all there was a good show on Natiional Geographic Channel on Tokyo Rescue showing the Hyper rescue units, sorry I don't have a tape of that one yet.

Rare to see Magirus ladder on Japanese truck!

To my eyes, the surprising aspect of this photo is that TFD mount a 40 (or 44) meter ladder on a two axle chassis. They must be getting an axle loading waiver, although I am not sure that may be entirely a good idea.

BTW I think there are now five hyper rescue stations, with a sixth about to become operational soon...
