London to Brighton Historic Commercial Vehicle run

1939 Dennis Light Four/New World fire engine on the annual London to Brighton historic commercial vehicle run held on the first Sunday in May each year. Each year, more then 100 vehicles take to the road and travel down from London to the south coast resort of Brighton in East Sussex, and include vintage buses, lorries and of course fire engines. They certainly did look a happy bunch of firies as they as they drove into Brighton last year in their best gear, including those lovely brass helmets. For more information on this 1939 Dennis Light Four/New World see picture #7141.

Pete Matten, I'd hate to see this rabble coming home from Brighton with a skinful of Guinness..!?

Pavel, maybe I should have sent in the other picture I took of this merry bunch of firies(on there return trip)having had such a good time down by the seaside in Brighton.Their waving to the crowds as they travel on there way, and all look quite merry, but I don't think its the Guinness, I think they've been on the old fire water itself(Whiskey that is).

Pete Matten, once these fine body of men donned the brass helmet and corse woolen tunic, there is only one course left open to them on their return journey, JAMESON Scotch Whisky! (12yr+ of course), , Then, and only then, they may be forgiven for any slight transition, , , ,

Being a member of the crew in this photo (I am standing at the rear offside of the appliance)I can assure you that we only ever drink tea when we are on the run, both to and returning from Brighton. We may have, on occasions, though been known to have a few cans of the dark stuff whilst parked up on the sea front.

This machine is preserved by Horsham Veteran Fire Engine Preservation Group and is used frequently during the summer months to give rides at school fetes and fire station open days

Hey John, sorry I didn't mean to offend you or your Presevation Group.I was a thirty-year serving member of the West Sussex Fire Brigade and know this old
vehicle very well and know very well the work you do throughout the summer.
If I've offended you in anyway, please except my apologies.Pete Matten-Ex WSFB.

Absolutley no offence taken, she really is a beautiful machine and with her celebrating her 70th birthday next year, just goes to show that they really don't make them like they used to! Not sure that this was on last years run though, Looking at who is there I would have said it was more like mid to late 90's.
