No This tanker would have been retired a long time ago from the ACT around early 90's possibly...

It was passed through to NSW Rural Fire Service and is still operational with them for BULK Water carting. I could be wrong it may very well have been retired from them also, as the brigade im pretty sure that use to operate it does not anymore.

The Old Stromlo 15/Forests 15 now PARKS 15 SCANIA Dual Axke Heavy Ridgid has had thousands spent on it with a new Pump and paint and total refurbishment to allow it to be operational for many years as a BULK water carrier for the ACT.

I have heard from my mate from PARKS its great running now a great looking beast and good fun to drive.

I will attempt to get a photo on here however with a very quiet season it may not happen untill late in the year,

Regards,

Jamie. Jerrabomberra RFS.

For a photo of that 'Parks 15' Scania tanker as 'Forests 15' in 2006: see picture #7009.

Ha, Big Ken, Little Wee was it's nickname after it was painted red and made the pride of Wallaroo RFB (outskirts of Canberra). While i I was in the neighbouring Hall Brigade I crewed it for the odd hazard reduction. From memory it had a V8 308 motor for the pump and while they were learning how to use the vehicle kept blowing the hoses off the couplings .. WAY too much pressure. Oh yeah, notice the 4 steps up, it was a long way up/down after a big day on the back.

Have done some further research into where it went- dead end, however this link has some great shots of it in a previous life as BFC 3. It still has fed gov plates so this is early '80s i recon. notice on the back near the pump it has a "chemical tank" for chemical we are not allowed to use any more!!! It was built to last, no plastic here!!! the link is: apma.org.au/reference/emergencyservices/bushfire/kenworth/kenworth.html
