1970's Ford C60 Truck Water Tanker Tijuana,Mexico

1970's Ford C60 Truck converted to a water tanker photographed outside Station #1 Tijuana,Mexico. This is another ex-USA vehicle which has been converted to meet the requirements of the department which is quite a common thing in Mexico even today. Many of the small run down villages and townships in Mexico have even today only an old tanker with a ladder strapped on the side to depend on to get water and equipment to the scene of fire in their communities......

Thanks Bob for that info, yes your probably right.I took those Mexican pictures back in 1990, brilliant hot day as you can see from picture and sun was shining
on the grill so couldn't make out the make, and I didn't get info at the time.

Pete:

A classic 'home-made' Tanker, with matching paint-job - but well-looked after by its crew.

I imagine it had to cope with some pretty rough roads and grades - and far, from a Filling Station, judging by the white fuel tank, or it may be Air Brake Reservoir.

There were a lot of these DIY rigs, especially Tankers, around in the rural areas of the Atlantic provinces, Canada - however disappearing now, as replaced by vehicles meeting the NFPA standards, and, of course, much more expensive.

In fact, my own rural VFD started in 1954, with neither Fire Engines nor
Fire-Hall. The members raised money locally, for portable pumps and hoses; which they hauled to the Fire-Scene in their own Half-Ton Pickup Trucks.

We are in our 2nd Fire-Hall, which was built by the members [2 carpenters on strength at the time] and local tradespeople also volunteered work on it.
