308[W]21 - Renault Mascott - Warsaw, Poland

A light firefighting/rescue appliance on Renault Mascott chassis, built by ISS Wawrzaszek. It is stationed at Warsaw’s Fire and Rescue Unit 8, which provides cover for the Praga-Południe district. Station 8 is also home to the Specialist Medical Rescue Group ‘Warszawa-8’. The group’s main role is organizing treatment for large numbers of casualties at major incidents, but it also carries out rehab & care duties. The station also holds a stock of first aid equipment, backboards, etc.

308[W]21 is mostly dispatched to ‘technical’ incidents, including RTAs, industrial incidents, etc. Thanks to its fire-fighting capability, it can also be used as a first intervention vehicle for fires. It embodies a new concept of an SLRt (light rescue), which has been in application since around 2001-2002. The idea is that an SLRt crew should be able to operate on its own at an RTA (which is its primary role – these are often called ‘road rescue vehicles’), without the assistance of a water tender. Therefore, a 1000 l. water tank and a built-in foam system were added to the typical SLRt, and crew cabs (5-7 places) became a must. Prior to that, an SLRt carried just the basic equipment and only up to 3 firefighters.

The new light rescue vehicle concept created havoc in the official vehicle naming system, as the result was a hybrid of a light pumper (GLBA) and a light rescue (SLRt), so mixes of the two appeared as new vehicles entered service in all corners of Poland: SLRt+BA, SLRtBA, GLBARt, GLBA+Rt, or a completely exotic mix GLBAt, as 308[W]21 is referred to. None of these follow any official norms – which shows that legislation is slow to follow such changes…

'Pump: Ruberg R2-40 high pressure pump (250 lmp @ 8 bar)'

It should be 250 lp @ 40 bar, sorry for the error.
