317[W]39 - GCBM 28/13 - Renault Magnum/ISS WawrzasThe one and only... ‘super heavy’, tractor-drawn tanker – the pride of Warsaw’s State Fire Service Fire and Rescue Unit 17 (JRG-17) of Ursynów, southern Warsaw.
The tractor unit is a Renault Magnum, powered by a dXi 12 Common Rail engine (480 HP).
The trailer tank was made by Stokota Kamarg of Kielce and the final touch to the whole set was given by one of the largest Polish fire engine manufacturers, ISS Wawrzaszek of Bielsko-Biała.
Theoretically, the tank capacity is as large as 28 tonnes. However, it is advised that the actual amount of water carried does not exceed 26 tonnes for safety reasons.
The tanker carries a very limited amount of equipment – just a few hoses (for pumping & suction), 2 BA sets and a Tohatsu VC 72 AS motor pump. It is also fitted with a system of self-defence sprinklers.
The tanker is mostly used at shouts where a large supply of water is needed and local hydrants are not coping with the ‘demand’ (which is almost a norm in Poland, as the hydrants are often old and poorly maintained). Alternatively, 317[W]39 can be used for distribution of water (also drinking water if prepared properly) to communities whose running water supply was cut off for whatever reason. For this purpose, a number of distribution tabs were installed on the trailer.
