9th Sept 2016 Montague Rd London E11. Five pumps and CU at drill. This pair of Ascham Homes tower blocks suffered a serious fire in December 2011. The same road saw a huge fire in a vehicle workshop in July 2015 which closed the overhead railway seen in background.

No aerial at a tower block drill?

Aerials can and do help rescue citizens and provide additional means of egress at high rise fires on floors up to the eighth, especially when (as in the UK) many of these have only one single interior fire staircase.

They are also routinely used as water towers to inhibit vertical exterior fire extension, and can perform this role up to around the twelfth floor of most high rises.

There are numerous videos of these tactics being successfully deployed in numerous countries on YouTube - and by no means are these limited to Third World countries.

According to press reports, the Grenfell fire started on the fourth floor. A first due ALP may perhaps have been able to prevent the external spread of this blaze, even with the disastrous inflammable cladding which was present.

We will never know, but if this had been a LFB SOP we would at least know everything reasonably possible had been done...

Thirteen aerials in a city of 7, 000, 000 is frankly ridiculous by any international standard.

Little Luxembourg - with few tall buildings, much less high rises - covers its population of 600, 000 citizens with nineteen! But there are so many other examples I will not fill up this space with all of them.
