Norwich Airport Foam Tender Pump
Thornycroft Nubian/Merryweather 6X6 Foam Tender Pump, bought secondhand, orignally in service with Handley Page at their aerodrome and raft aircfactory at Radlett, Hertfordshire. Rolls Royce B81 petrol engine. Carried 800 gallons (3636.8 litres)of protein foam concentrate and 100 gallons (454.6 litres) water, mixed with round the pump proportioner, capable of pumping on the move. This was our No1 machine in my days. Alongside can be seen ex AFS Green Goddess. I served Norwich Airport for 27 years from 1975, eight of them as Duty Crew Fire Service. In my fire service time we also had a Range Rover/Carmichael 6X4 conversion RIT (Rapid Intervention Tender) and ex Birmingham Airport, former MTCA (Ministry of Transport & Civil Aviation) Thornycroft Nubian with Sun bodywork. At that time we operated to Cat 5, the largest aircraft being Boeing 737-200.
