Scott, have you seen the area Strathclyde cover? There are some very remote locations, not to mention islands. That's what i like about Strathclyde, they go from 1 extreme to the other! From the biggest, most populated city in Scotland to the 1 of the most remote islands in Scotland. I hope they never change it!!

No i didn't realise Strathclyde had so much extra-rural areas! Always thought about highland and islands with the volunteers!
Is there anywhere in England with Volunteer forces (on mainland, rather than say Isles of Scilly etc)?

I can see these machines being brought in more and more as they cost considerably less than a new Scania. They look as though they can carry quite a bit of equipment.

Steve, yes has my tick of approval. Tell me, what's that machine to the left of the photo, do you have a snap of that?

The scania is a TL. It is a 'C' reg (1986) and only went off the run at the beginning of the year (i think). 21 years service - says a lot for Scania's! It is now preserved and can be seen at various public events.

Buzz, the TL went off the run about the 19th of June in 2006, answering its last call the day before. It was then permanently loaned to the Strathvlyde Preservation Group who have exhibited it at Truckfest this year and last, for a photo see picture #1369 I will upload a higher res. photo soon.

Scot, Devon and Somerset F&RS have a volunteer unit at Kingston, approximately 10 miles to the east of Plymouth. North Yorkshire have three volunteer units high up in the hills at Goathland, Grassington and recently-opened Lofthouse.
And let's not forget the daddy of them all: Peterborough Volunteers - the oldest fire brigade in the country, if not the world. Although the sprawling city of Peterborough (Cambridgeshire) is covered by wholetime stations at Stanground and Dogsthorpe, the city centre is covered by a two pump volunteer (not retained) station that operates under the umbrella of cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service.

Yeh thanks, I've added one of the same appliance. I've just bought a book about Scottish Castles/Stately Homes etc and it's got a great picture of two Grampian/North Eastern Fire Brigade F26's outside Crathes castle following a fire there many years ago...I think it's a stunning vehicle!
