Fireman, Is that snow chains that are hanging near the rear axle, I seem to recall reading about a system that was fitted to the truck and could be operated remotely when required! Systems like this do not exist in the U.K. to my knowledge, could you enlighten me!?
Yes, they are called "On Spot" chain system. They fold up next to the axle and when activated, they drop down and spin the same speed as the wheels to sling the chain under the tire for traction. They work great on snow but aren't worth much on ice.
