Fisher Fire 1959 Chevrolet - Darley Pumper

This engine has a very unique history in Fisher, MN (Minnesota). I started my fire career behind this engine as a third generation firefighter. I and two other firefighter friends of mine recently purchased her. She is in very nice condition as you can see. Enjoy

Thanks Marcel, Yes...the good old days of defensive firefighting. I appreciate the kind words about my 1959 Chevrolet. I wouldn't sell her for any amount of money with the memories I have with it. She supplied water on some of the best fires I've ever fought. I'm blessed. Be Safe, Wayne

The good old days !! :-) Great pictures Wayne !!...
This truck is great looking, the department did a great job to keep her in this shape. Keep up the good work :-)

Hi Marel, I wish I had some pics of our '59 Chev. in action. In fact I'm in the process of trying to find some by contacting some of our older surviving retirees. The fires I'm talking about were mostly residential / winter structure fires in Minnesota. They were in the late 1970s - early 1980 era. We reverse layed all of our attack lines and put the '59 at the hydrant. Our small fire dept. didn't have SCBAs and state of the art PPE in those days. Long coats, 3/4 boots and Helmet was all we had. The only picture I have of the engine is in the background of a 3 generation newspaper clipping of my grandfather, father and myself in our old gear. The picture is not very good as it is a scanned 5" X 3" newpaper pic. Have a great weekend. Be Safe! Wayne

I have a pumper a lot like this one at the Helenville Volunteer Fire Department in Helenville WI. I am looking for Master Cylinder parts. The brakes keep locking up. I can blees it off both before and after the Vaccume Booster, so I think that it is in the Master Cylinder. I am Having trouble finding parts. Any Ideas???

Quite a unique engine - looks like it has a separate engine-and-pump athwartships behind the cab.
Great photo, and good luck.

Ryan,
In the 50's, 60's and even until the mid 70's Wagner and Raybestos made repair kits for master and wheel cylanders. Basically they were new cups, springs and boot covers. You had to CAREFULLY hone the cylander bore, clean it out real good and reassemble it with the new parts.
The alternative was to get a new unit. If you go to a real parts store, one with actual catalogues, take the old cylander, or at least copy all the casting numbers off your cylander and have the partsman research his casting listings until he finds one to match yours.Todays partsmen might not know what you are talking about, so keep looking until you find one who does.

I'd be curious to know a little more about this truck. What size of pump and water does it have. How long of a reverse lay was it capable of doing? Was it set up for pump n roll?
