I saw the sister machine on driver training in Yeovil today (09/10/10). Any idea why the two wholetime pumps for Taunton and Yeovil if they were delivered at the same time as the MAN for Wells have taken nearly eight months to be put on the run? I photoed the new MAN for Wells in March this year which was part of this batch of three MAN's for Somerset stations. Is this going to be the first away WRL if it is then the call sign will be V61P1 not P2.

Hi Paul, no the call sign is correct as I have just checked another side shot image, of this appliance and it is definately V61P2, Phil did explain the logic of this numbering system, all I can remember it is to be unrolled across the UK with a new radio system. Why eight months I do not know, the invisible VEMAS are still not on the run yet and all (despite a image on here of one at Crown Hill) still at SHQ in Exeter, although one was at Taunton last week for training, and Phil said two would arrive at Taunton shortly again for training. All appliances in D&SFR now have a life expectancy of 15 years and not 6 as was previously used by the Devon and Somerset Brigades, so this one will around for a very long time, also all vehicles in D&SFRS are now leased, and they own none. Hope this helps.

Hello Mike and Helen either this is going on the run as the second away or it has been labelled incorrectly. Every first away WRL in D and S is P1 with the second away WRT being P2 (Pump2). I photographed Yeovils Wholetime First away Volvo WRL on 26/09/10 and this is labelled on the door V73P1 and the new MAN at Wells is V83P1. I cannot comment for the former Devon Brigade but the life expectancy of the good old well maintained Somerset appliances was 12 years minimum with some lasting 14years. In fact the current second away water tender at Shepton Mallet is on a N plate which makes it 14yrs old (1996).

Anyone know if this is on the run yet at Taunton?
