Knickerbocker company No. 5 engine

I saw this old timer in the hall of the San Francisco Fire department headquarters. It's a hand drawn and hand pumped engine. It was built in 1855 by James Smith in New York. Total cost : $5,000. The engine was part of the Knickerbocker Company no. 5, based at Sacramento street, between Montgomery and Sansome. The Knickerbocker Company No. 5 was organised at October 17 1850 and was disbanded at December 3 1866.
