Not unusual to see separate Ambulance Services "co-habitating" in Fire-Hall bays.
Some Full-Time Fire-fighters(better pay here) will "moon-light" as part-time Paramedics or Emergency Medical Technicians (more advanced medical skills)
Nothing new Pat....up to 1974 quite a few UK towns had combined Fire and Ambulance Services.....I was a member of one and when they split I ended up on the Ambo without any choice !!!!
Actually I wish all private ambulance services did that in Georgia. Fire apparatus rolls on all EMS calls with the ambulance anyway so why not have them respond together?
Yes you are correct Tony....the responsibility for the fire service is with the local authority or in joint areas the fire authority....the ambulance service is with the NHS, there is no 'common ground' here. Some ambo services 'rent space' in fire stations to garage an ambulance there, in fact in Darlington, they have leased the old workshops building in the station yard to provide an ambulance station, but other than that they are separate entities.
Here in Dublin Barrie, ambulance services are provided by both the HSE (Irish equiv. to NHS) and Dublin Fire Brigade. However, both services operate separately and this can occasionally lead to problems with regard to dispatch of vehicles. A recent report on the future of ambulance services in Dublin has unsurprisingly recommended that both services work together with regard to control and dispatch in order to provide the city and county with a better level of service.
By the way Chad, it is not unusual to see a Dennis Sabre respond along with an ambulance to a medical call, similar to what happens in the U.S.
