Shand Mason City of Chester Steam engine

I know a few pictures of this Sand Mason have been on this site but i thought you would like this one as it shows it getting up steam. It was at the Wreham fire station open day back in 2007

Oh, definitely more pictures please, Dave - especially of its "workings", and operation, in steam.

There's only a few of them, on this 'Site; where the vehicle 4-legged power "burns hay" and the pump "burns coal".....

And, Pic # 19011 has a discussion going, on William Rose Steamer vs Shand Mason Steamer differences; and we don't have enough pictures to see.....

And, to show today's generation, that "The Stuff", didn't always come "From Above"; in those days, the crews had to shovel it out, from the Horse Stables.......

Regards, from Canada,

I've never been sure where the 1876 date and provenance of the "Chester" LB Vertical came from.
Chester originally had a "medium-sized" Merryweather Greenwich which was a twin cylinder horizontal with eccentric-operated slidevalves. I have a photo of the The Earl Of Chester's Volunteer Brigade with Steamer, Manual and Wheeled escape ( and at least three different patterns of uniform - maybe for the different crews? ). The only example of a Greenwich still working is the TEHIDY HOUSE engine well cared for by Charlie Daniel. There is another in Liverpool Museum Collections - the 1800 gpm HOLT.
