I have been informed this a Renault with bodywork by HCB ANGUS. It was owned from new by Glaxo at the Factory at Ware, Hertfordshire. It has also been used to test dry risers. It now belongs to a member of the Gloucester and Warwickshire Railway Fire Department. It was originally painted red.
Um, I don't think it is actually steam-powered; more likely one of those new-fangled Internal Combustion Engines......
Sorry, couldn't resist - always get a kick out of the non-steam powered vehicles on show, at the various Steam Shows......
But, then, again; over here, we still have the Steamer Connection on our fire-hydrants - the Steamers (Steam Pumps)have been long gone since the 1920's.
Would the long-suffering crew have ridden in the box-part?
Its suprising how many former fire appliances are used by enthusiasts or other bodies who operate either preserved Railways, or Steam Road Locomotives (Traction Engines). I've previously enclosed a view of a former Tyne and Wear Dennis and another of a Lancashire Bedford both of which are used in that role. This one appears to be an exhibit rather than a service vehicle. As for the Green livery, perhaps its a pseudo military vehicle?
Why yes, Bob; that makes perfect sense - having preserved Fire Engines haul feed-water for the Steamers' boilers, vintage Coal Lorries for fuel; and restored Saw-Mills for firewood; makes a great time for everybody.....
There's nothing like these Steam Shows, at all, in my neck of the woods - probably have to travel West, a thousand miles or so, to find one; so I have to enjoy them on the Web....
